Fountain Valley Businesses Suffer From Bridge Closures!
The I-405 Improvement Project has shut down Magnolia Street bridge and Edinger Avenue bridge since early 2018. Affected businesses in Fountain Valley are hoping to ride out the traffic drought to 2023 . The projection plan expects opening the bridges in 2023 but has an open extension for completion. Bridge closures mean a loss of vehicle and foot traffic for surrounding businesses. Fountain Valley’s long-standing brick and mortars that contribute to the local economy and community are suffering from a loss of customers. What used to be the businesses busiest hours are now dead-zones due to the blocked roads and lack of access. Don’t forget about your neighborhood shops. Fountain Valley local businesses need you! The reconstruction of the Magnolia Street bridge is planned to take about 18 months. Edinger Avenue bridge is planned to open Spring of 2019. Businesses are trying everything they can to ensure they last through the construction. Planned work will increase the number of traffic lanes from four to six and add bike lanes and sidewalks in both directions. During the closure, northbound drivers will be detoured off the freeway at Warner and southbound drivers will have to exit at Beach, according to the Orange County Transportation Authority. The bridge is one of more than 18 that will be replaced, enlarged or built as part of a $1.9-billion project to widen the 405 between the 73 Freeway in Costa Mesa and the 605 Freeway. Once the project is completed in 2023, the 16-mile stretch will have an additional general-purpose lane and a new “express” toll lane going north and south, according to the OCTA. The existing carpool lane in each direction will be converted to an express lane. Currently, the San Diego Freeway (I-405) is one of the most congested freeways in Orange County, carrying more than 300,000 vehicle trips in some sections each day. By 2040, traffic volumes on the I-405 are expected to increase significantly. The I-405 Improvement Project will improve traffic, allow for increased usage amounts and enhance road safety to meet state and federal standards. For information on detours, closures, construction activities, freeway closures, and bridge demolitions please visit www.octa.net/405improvement or contact the 405 Community Outreach Team at (888) 400-8994 or 405project@octa.net. ... Let's Welcome The Western Regional Pickleball Tournament!
The City of Fountain Valley and the Experience FV - Cty611 Team is more than excited to be welcoming the West Regional Pickleball Tournament Athletes and it's guests.

As some may know, Mile Square Park will be the hosting site for the 1200+person Pickleball tournament on September 18-23 . ExperienceFV – CTY 611 has partnered with the USA Pickleball Association for their West Regional Tournament as the official city tour guide for guests and locals! Providing exclusive deals to all the hottest local restaurants, and making it all easily accessible on the app.

Pickleball has traditionally been under the radar. All that has changed as it gains traction across the United States. The sport stands out from it’s predecessors by offering inclusivity. Matches between 80-year-olds and 10-year-olds are the norm with every category in-between. Played using a paddle and a perforated ball - similar to a wiffle ball, Pickleball is a combination of Tennis, Badminton and Ping-Pong. Courts can be inside or outside, and the low impact of the sport makes it accessible to everyone. The sport has become so popular many cities are replacing Tennis courts with Pickleball ones, including Fountain Valley. Using city funds, Fountain Valley Tennis Center replaced some of their Tennis courts with Pickleball courts. Pickleball is now raging through OC with upcoming tournaments throughout the year. The Orange County Spring Games, Orange County Classic, City of Anaheim Pickleball Championships, Seal Beach Head Tournament and the California Open in Fountain Valley are all on the line-up for 2020. Pickleball doesn’t stop here, however. The USA Pickleball Association has tournaments across the country in cities like Delaware, Texas, California, Oregon and Michigan and more. Check out their website for upcoming tournaments! Keep your eyes on the ball and don't be surprised if the sport goes pro!

Enjoy the tournament this week at Mile Square Park.
